Emmetty update

Our sweet baby is a toddler now!  It's been awhile since a comprehensive update so we will try to document as much as we can about our delightful little boy--who gets mistaken for a girl all the time because his hair is so long and sometimes we pull it back with a rubber band.

He loves talking! Here's a list of his words that he says unprompted (when prompted he tries to say almost anything you ask him to say).  For linguistic nerd like me - interestingly he tends to drop consonants altogether and replace with glottal stops rather than other consonants.  Eden used to replace with other consonants (namely d/t).  He also uses diphthongs a lot to replace consonants.

His speech is expanding by the day though, so we need to throw this list up before it becomes obsolete!  And before you read the full list, check out these adorable videos:

Full word list that we can think of:
  • beh-ee (baby)
  • baaww (ball, a favorite word to describe all circles)
  • na (banana)
  • ba-ee (bar, for a strawberry bar for breakfast)
  • bash (bath)
  • ba-ey (bear)
  • bey (bed)
  • babu (bottle or cup of milk - it's more like ba-bvvv - bilabial fricative!)
  • buh (book)
  • buh-bai (bye bye - w/wave)
  • tah (cat)
  • eez (cheese)
  • dee-ro (cheerio)
  • daddy
  • dah (down)
  • ba ba ba (drum or other percussion instrument)
  • dih-dih (Eden!! It's so funny because that's what Bubbe's little brother called her too!!  Her first name is Linda)
  • eet (feet)
  • aas (glasses)
  • tai (guitar)
  • haa (hat)
  • huh (help- with sign)
  • hi
  • hah (hot)
  • mama
  • bvvvv (more, with sign)
  • no

  • ba-ee (potty)

  • oos (shoes)
  • oooh (spoon)
  • ta-ee (sorry, usually only prompted)
  • ta! (stop)
  • tees (teeth)
  • da-du (thank you)
  • dis (this, which he says ALL THE TIME)
  • uh (up)
  • wawa (water or bottle of water)
He also does animal sounds like
  • Ruff ruff or bow wow (dog)
  • Mvvvvv (cow)
  • Bvvvvvvvv (elephant, with hand motion)
  • Row (cat)
  • Baa (sheep)
  • Eeek!  or La LA LA (pig; "eek" is also used for frogs)
  • Roar (lion)
  • Aaaak!  (duck)
  • Ha, huff! (rhinoceros)

He loves to throw things. If you hand him something, you should expect him to wrestle it away from you and cast it away with gusto.  I have had several incidents with open water bottles and food pouches.

He also loves putting things together/taking them apart, particularly screwing the tops on pouches and water bottles.

He does cleanup march - and in fact listens very well when you ask him to do simple tasks!  Better than our three-year-old :)

He loves washing hands and brushing teeth, and he tries to pull a chair up to stand on it to wash his hands like Eden does.  He loves to stand on the stool and run the water and put his toothbrush under it, then put it in his mouth, then do it again, over and over.

He loves to take off running in a direction and will keep doing it repeatedly, and will run into the street if you let him.

He can climb stairs up and down!

He can have conversations too!

me: Ready to go home and see daddy?
Emet: Daddy!
me: and Eden?
Emet: No.

Usually when you ask him something he'll respond with the last word in the sentence.  And he strings 2-word phrases like "up daddy" and "mama no no no"
