Eden sings the ABCs....

....and poops in the bath. I (Aunt Beppy) took care of Eden tonight while Mama was at Octave rehearsal and Daddy was at a class. I was enjoying Eden's rendition of the ABC's, so I decided to record it. As she began singing the song a third time in a row, I noticed a brown cloud coming up from underneath.

Before I go any further, here's the video (don't worry, the brown cloud is covered with a censor bubble). The video is closed captioned, so please turn on closed captioning before enjoying this video (click the CC button beneath the video!)

Immediately I stopped the video. This is really happening, I realized. I scooped her out and for a few seconds frantically moved around holding this wet, naked toddler in front of me, indecisive. Thinking like a dog owner (which is the only creature I've remotely had experience potty training), I tried to sit her on her little potty in case there was still more to come out. There wasn't.

Next, I cleaned and dried her off and then set up an episode of Sesame Street for her to watch in her room while I took care of the poo. I chose the episode in a hurry, but later on I realized the episode I selected was quite fitting: "Sesame Street Gets Through a Storm: The Gang works together to clean up after a hurricane makes a mess on Sesame Street. Natural disasters can be scary, especially to young children. Watch this Hurricane special with your child for strategies to help them cope with their emotions when faced with the aftermath of a natural disaster."

As I was in a hurry to clean the tub, I didn't think to put a diaper on her and thus she stood watching Sesame Street in her room, completely naked. As I ran around trying to decide how to attack the storm in the bathroom, I noticed Eden peeing on the carpet. Now this is something I've handled many times before as a pet owner. Poo in the tub? Actually, I have cleaned (cat) poo from a tub before, but never a tub that was already full of water.

I won't go into further details, but rest assured Eden got to bed clean, pajama-ed, teeth brushed, and bedtime storied. The tub? Yeah, it's clean now too.

  1. The next day after Eden's first day of pre-primary, she was playing her guitar and singing the ABC's again. Her pitch is quite amazing! Here's a link to a Youtube video:
